I can't decide if I want to become a High Wizard or Minstrel. Both have strenghts I like and weaknesses I can deal with. But my dilema is that I like both lol. My play style actually varies with each game I play. Current build is Int/Dex/Vit Wizard.
To give an idea of my play style I figured i'd put what I play as on other mmos:
DDO- Cleric-healer DDO- Wizard-damage caster DDO- Bard-buff support LOTRO- Lore Master-Debuffer LOTRO- Hunter-ranged damager Aqworld- Priest-heal/support Warspear- Priest-heal/buff/support World of Magic- Mage-heal/damage caster Runescape- Wizard-damage caster/support
As you can tell I tend to go towards spellcasters, hence me being a wizard. But past wizard is one I need help with.

I Barely know anything about Minstrel here, but afaik they're primarily a support/buffer class. Not even like the Minstrels of LOTRO (which are basically healers with buffing abilities). From the list above, at least of those I have some knowledge of, you might as well follow the Wiz/HighWiz path.

Ty, I edited the post to state what each one's main job was on those games. (My favorite being my Lore Master)

Ty, I edited the post to state what each one's main job was on those games. (My favorite being my Lore Master) Are we talking about Lord of the Rings: Online Loremasters? Maybe things have changed since Rohan came out (left my lifetime account shortly before that) but LM was Not a buffer. If anything, they debuff mobs while at the same time dealing high dmg with their "magic". Their crowd control was great too.

havent try minstrel yet. but i think minstrel are support class. its hardly to solo and party dependant. all his skill are buff. low physical dmg (compare to gladiator/ other physical build), low magic damage (compare to hw/ other magic build), & low def (compare to pally/ other def build).
but for hw. have massive damage, area atk, & can solo most monster/boss. can heal hp & mp. have drain to heal & damage monster at same time. hw is easy & fun class.

I wonder if we can get a Minstrel into this thread to way in as well.
My favorite characters I had from other games were:
My Wizard from DDO My Bard from DDO My Lore Master from LOTRO

To be 100% honest. Everyone underestimates the Minstrel job. They all look at the job's skills and always assume it's the support. In recent experiences AS a Minstrel, i have found them to be perfect for most parties and even capable of solo'ing with ease if the right Song combo is used. That, and you have to remind yourself of the autoskill xtals. I.e, Vampire Blow, (I think), Sonic Boom, Mana Wave, Aid, Mini Heal. Using these to your advantage as a Job that has no starting damage ability is your best way until Dragonewt song. (I believe this is the skill that does extra damage to a mob based upon the parties damage stats. Dex, Crit, Str and I believe Int.) If the right build is chosen, the right gears and the correct use of Song, Minstrel can be a mass damage dealer. Granted, they lack the damage skills to assist until Dragonewt Song, and even with that, the extra damage won't be as high, but, it's still something. I found if you built Agi/Vit/Dex>Str, you can build up to a possible 12-15k hp by 100/110. It's all about using things to your advantage with Minstrel, and players who have done as such will be able to back me up on this. As difficult as it may seem, you will be able to do some incredible damage alone come the later levels.

Minstrel has plenty of buffs that affect damage and solo abilities.
Your best bet? Go agi crit build, and use passionate (increase atk/aspd)+warrior song (evasion+20%) for fighting, and life song (max hp+50?% and hp recov+100%)+song of joy and sorrow(rapid recovery of hp/mp) for tanking/maintaining hp/mp. Remember joy song recovers which is lower out of hp/mp and if they are at an even percentage, itll switch between each every tick.
But yes, with the addition of new skills, minstrel has gained a few nice tricks in their arsenal for soloing. The class is EXTREMELY underestimated.
EDIT: Also, for leveling on weaker mobs at lower levels, or on mobs that have troubles hitting you, you can use nostalgia song as well (increase crit dmg, rate and increases melee damage).
I suggest lining gears with HP abilities.
Nails - Gusanoth (?) Armor - Ferzen Additional - Minotaur Special - Giant Rocker
