Saltus is for HP, general grinding, and reliable soloing. Plate Armor for boss fights and hard hitting monsters, it can also be used for soloing bosses but it's luck dependant, Saltus is more reliable. My vote goes to Saltus.
Edit: Licht Armor is something to look forward to, it makes you pretty tanky, stats are as following and the armor will be released in a few updates.
DEF: 15-20 Skill Delay -0.5s (faster Guardian spam), DEF and MDEF up by level (anything that scales with level is usually powerful in my opinion) (DEF increases by 50% of level, MDEF increases by 120% of level), Physical and Magical Resistance + 5%, on defense chance for skill delay reduction (and 1% ATK for 10 seconds)
aroxis how is plate armor crap? Upgrades auto skill is like Paladin's parry skill, which means more damage cuts. Plate armor has been one of my favorite armors for tanking since making paladin, and has even helped me solo some bosses.
I feel paladin should have situational gears (I.e. saltus for high hp grinds, plate/laminated mail for tanking crt bosses, etc.)

Meh I'm nt a pally but from my exp using plate armor, it was terrible for tanking. The proc rate was reaaaaally low (5%)? and if ya wanna cut out dmg dmail would do a btr job proc-wise IMO. I know quite a few pallys and I really haven't seen em use plate armor, I think saltus does a better job defencively and offencively...but im not a pally so this is all from my observation and exp.

I've never had an issue with proc rate. You do realise you need to take damage for it to actually proc? No ss. And every paladin I've known has used plate armor for bosses who crit a lot. The only thing I'd replace it with is Laminated Mail, which is the production 'upgrade' to the armor. D.Mail procs a counter attack, not a rate cut. So D.Mail isn't even applicable. I wouldn't even CONSIDER D.Mail for paladin, tbh. Good for chanters, not paladin.

Doesn't dmail completly nullify dmg by chance? BTW which bosses would u need p.armor?

I thought dmail's auto skill was counter by defense not nullify dmg?
