Over and over I keep trying different paths and I get the same annoying message "it seems u took the incorrect path" what "path" am I supposed to take?

Head anti clockwise, try to stay at the outer portion of those stones or you can always find videos of those mq to see how they did it  |

make a right hand turn follow outer edge until you are behind there mq circle, once behind go towards the circle it should work

Idk if you still need help but... After the cutscene with Veltria, you should do what tsukiko said ( follow the stones which leads to the weird dimension thingy )  And make sure to stay aligned with the stairs when entering  |
