Hi! If you are an assassin, or an assassin-to-be, or even just considering the class, I say go for it! Like every class, there are so many cool skills and tactics used in this class and it is super fun! Unfortunately, there are not as many assassins left as there used to be due to the ninja class implementation. However, both classes are equally as fun. Please do keep in mind that this is only my opinion and it may not work for everyone. As updates come out with more equipment, I will try my best to keep this updated. I'd be really happy to get other people's opinions on their methods of playing too!
To start off, the assassin stems from the following:
Adventurer
> Warrior
>> Hunter
>>> Assassin
Warrior:
Apprenticeship is available at lvl 10 from Varuna at Bailune
Full Class is available at lvl 20 from Varuna at Bailune
Hunter:
Apprenticeship is available at lvl 50 from Kady in Diel
*You must have Battle Mastery skLvl 3 & Defense skLvl 3
Full Class is available at lvl 70 from Nepherta in Sofya
Assassin:
Apprenticeship is available at lvl 120
*You must have Arrow Rain skLvl 2, Venom Attack skLvl 3, and Impetus skLvl 1
Full Class is available at lvl 140 from King Elbano in the Elban
Builds
Generally, assassins are found either with a nail build or a backstab (BS) build. Although assassins are able to use their skills to the best of their abilities as a BS build, I personally suggest being a nail build until full class because leveling can be a challenge as a BS build without the actual Backstab skill.
Nail Build:
Nail builds focus on attacking fast while not being hit at the same time. Like monk and ninja, this build is made of CRT and AGI as the top two stats. Assassins with a nail build can be potential tanks, but that also depends on the AGI. Another option is to add STR along with CRT and AGI to increase damage. Especially with the skills Evasion, Invisible, and Shadow Walk, damage will be quite high when using weapons that base attack off of AGI. This build is best for leveling to 180, but is not as useful after the 180 skills such as backstab and other buffs that up stats based on throwing and INT. A nail built assassin can solo and survive easier than a BS assassin.
Backstab Build:
So my friend Maven did this amazing guide to backstab build and I figured that it would be more useful than anything I came up with so check it out!

Equipment
Equipment varies greatly from person to person, build to build. I suggest upgrading all of your equipment that has upgrades because this will provide you with more stats that can be very useful. Although there are so many different weapons and armors, additional gears and special equipment, I only recorded what I thought were to be most useful. Again, not everyone will find the listed equipment to be useful. I suggest trying out the equipment before purchasing so you have a feel for whether or not it is helpful to you.

◇Celawinos: Melee+5% to water, Autoskill+1%, (Melee+10% to water on ADD)
◇Pursuer: Melle+5% to wind, autoskill+1%, (Melee+10% to wind on ADD)
I mainly recommend Boss Colon and Plazuda. Only put Ganei on special equipment because the HP limitation can be fatal. Use Magonza on armor for more stats, and Plazuda on weapons for extra stats. Assult is an xtal that you need to make at Elban. It is very useful for breaking barriers. Especially with many of the new bosses that have barriers, I highly recommend grabbing even maybe a duplicate of an add gear or weapon to put it on so you can use that and have another to hold a different xtal in case you need it for different purposes. If you can afford it, I do suggest getting Oritius for weapons, as it is +1% more atk than Plazuda.
Skills
Assassins tend to focus more on having buffing skills rather than attack skills. Since some skills are based off of INT, I suggest having at least 50 INT points, regardless of build, which will also help in the long run, since skills take up MP. *(P) indicates that it is a passive skill. Note: Quests named “Skill Acquisition Trials” are not actually their official names. Some names of items/mobs don't translate directly to the English version from the Japanese one so if you know the ENG version name of something, please leave a comment.

Star Abilities:
Star abilites are a newer part of the game and personally, I have not really been too fond of using them. However, if you do have a high enough level of star ability, it can be very helpful. Each class will benefit from each ability differently. Always try to get the abilities at 5☆, since it has better stats than at 1☆. The list below is of the abilities that each assassin build might find useful. They are organized so top one is most helpful. The stats shown of the abilities are their stats at 5☆.

Leveling Suggestions:
First off, I suggest going nail build until lvl 180. Back in the day, people still used Naga as their main source of leveling from 120-160. That is what I did at least. However, now there are more options such as High Ents, Megaroches, and Neknotts. These mobs will level you fast, but I would suggest being at least level 160. I would also like to warn you that not everyone is familiar with the assassin class so they may not know how to benefit best from them. Especially from level 120-160, you will face times where you may not be partied simply due to your class. DO NOT GIVE UP! It is frustrating, yes, but keep working because the ultimate reward is worth it. Not only that but you can show others how to best work with an assassin.
Tips & Tricks:
As a backstab built assassin, I have the issue of skill delay. At my current level, I do not have much dex so I cannot spam. However, I have come up with a set of gear that can help you spam backstab even with a non-spamming build. Even though you may not be able to deal as much damage as you normally would, you will be able to spam backstab very fast. (I do not recommend for players who have 240+ dex stat points).
As you level well into the 200's, you can switch to elemental weapon sets with similar elemental xtals in them, such as Dragon Roar with ◇Sakimori, which would be super effective on an earth type. However, doing this might require more equipment and while the damage is stronger than that of just using normal atk xtals (such as Oritius), the damage difference is not much.
To start off, the assassin stems from the following:

Star Abilities:
Star abilites are a newer part of the game and personally, I have not really been too fond of using them. However, if you do have a high enough level of star ability, it can be very helpful. Each class will benefit from each ability differently. Always try to get the abilities at 5☆, since it has better stats than at 1☆. The list below is of the abilities that each assassin build might find useful. They are organized so top one is most helpful. The stats shown of the abilities are their stats at 5☆.
Blue is Nail build
