So I have this Acer Aspire blabla might not be important (E410 I think) XD but anyway the keyboard is broken. Some letters don't work like when I press Delete or letter A it doesn't do anything. I dun have money to take it to the repair shop so I thought of using the usb keyboard I got 3 years ago for Christmas. Problem is the keyboard works fine on our pc and my dad's laptop but not on my Acer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I suspect one key is stuck on my laptop keyboard. I tried taking out all characters, cleaning with a brush and putting em back together. Problem's still there.
My question is, is there a way to disable the laptop keyboard so I can use my usb keyboard? I can't seem to find any answers on Google (probably just bad keywording). Or maybe I can repair my laptop keyboard myself? The os was Windows 8.1 and now it's 10.

My up button is stuck e.e anyways, as a last resort, uninstall keyboard drivers from device drivers but then idk if the keyboard will ever work again. Also for the USB keyboard, check if ur ports are dusty. Best go and ask repair shop guy what's wrong, and then look up google and repair itself No need money then xD

That's a risk I wouldn't wanna take @_@. I'll see if I can somehow get a free check up of my laptop XD. My flash drives work perfectly so I don't think they're dusty. Thanks Nyx

Thanks Nyx it could also be dust building up inside the keyboard (more likely in this case since it's partially functioning). Dust does get conductive over time.

One of my friends did ask me if I cleaned the inside. I'm too scared to open my laptop so I haven't done this yet @-@. I should prolly leave it to ze pros.

That's our deshi Scientist ! xD lol, I just don't like to go to tech support coz those guys most of the time try to convince me that all i know about technology is wrong. Like a guy few days ago when I went to buy a laptop (for someone else) tried to explain to me how cores work and what I know about it is wrong apparently 😂

I actually had an acer aspire 2 years ago and I still do now, so I should be able to help out. There is a FN button, try pressing one of the f buttons that has the image of your keyboard and a cross on it. I can't remember but I'm pretty sure that was what disabled the laptop's mouse and keyboard for me.

Search YouTube for remove Acer e410 keyboard, most of the time you don't have to open the sensitive parts to remove the keyboard, just the upper portion..
The model is very important as different models are built differently or may have different auxiliary components... Check the sticker underside your laptop for the correct and full model
1) After removing the keyboard. plugin your external keyboard and turn it on
2) If the laptop beeps your external keyboard cannot be recognized... Place back the keyboard and go to step 4
3) If it works then the problem is hardware so you need to bring it to the shop/technician for repairs. If it doesn't go proceed to nxt step
4) If the problem still persists it might be in the software.. Update your antivirus it might just be a virus problem
5) since you said you upgraded it from w8.1 to w10 it might be a driver problem...search control panel in the search button.. Go to- hardware and sound>device manager>keyboard if there's an exclamation mark... Open it go to driver>update driver
6) w10 might not be installed correctly insert your w10 installer disc then navigate until you find the repair OS or repair operating system or anything that sounds like that (you can get a techy friend to do this if your not confident enough)
7) if not try to downgrade your pc back to w8.1, w10 might not be compatible with your laptop
8)if all else fails bring it to the repair shop its easier to spot problems if you got the item on hand.. Or get a new one if its 5years old, hardware wear and tear is around 5years especially well used ones
