The blacksmiths at Kreldan and Wind Ark are my lucky blacksmiths *^*
I usually go from 0 to +7 with 5-10 fails and +7 to +9 0-1 fail there
And for other places..... It takes me foreverrrrrrrr
I'll have to give some credit to the one at Maios too cuz some of +9 also come from him XD

I've super refined many items and taken a few armor and additional equipment to +20. That means, I've made items +9 successfully well over 100+ times. I've always counted the number of tries it takes to go from +8 to +9 successfully. From my experience, refining an item from +8 to +9 is averaged out to be around 10% success rate. Sometimes, I get it on the first try, sometimes it's on the third try. Usually it's around the 8th-13th try. When I'm really unlucky, it stretches out to the 30th try. My longest was about 33 tries.
I didn't really count the success rate for refining an item from +7 to +8, but I can say, it's around a 20%-25% success rate.
I use Hiirokane Ore on items that are +0/+6, and use Orichalcum on items that are +6/+7/+8.
Edit: I did most of my refinement at Underground Bailune.

Yea, I'm quite aware of it. I guess what I really wanted to say was that, when an Item is +5 or less, I would use Hiirokane to make it a +7. However, when it fails and becomes +6, I would use Orichalcum to try to bring it to +7. But when that fails, or it just gets stuck at +6, I would use Hiirokane to bring it to +7. For me, I didn't care how much Hiirokane I spent, I just wanted the item to be +9 for Super Refinement.
If someone wanted to conserve Spina, they could technically bring an item to +7 using Mythril. There would be lots of fail and time spent taking it to +7, but it would save you lots of Spina. Then you can use Orichalcum to bring it to +8 and +9.

when using mythril +0-7 it likes to -1-3 refine a lot usually high mythril to +6 mythril to +7 ori for +8-9.

Yea, refining can lose value when you fail.
Non Slot Items can -1/+0/+1 1 Slot Items can -2/-1/+0/+1 2 Slot Items can -3/-2/-1/+0/+1
Edit - Pretty much the only way to refine 2 Slot Items is to use Hiirokane and Ori.

I'm bringing this thread back to life. I've added a refinement section to iruna-online.info. I've done some research and I want to say that success rate is same for all Blacksmith. www.iruna-online.info/refinement

for me personally, my favorite black smith is Dyron in underground Bailune. last time I refine 0-+9 in one try on ,y kagekiri. and I didn't even have hope I would make it to 8 with out failing. but I did to +9, no fail once XD.
