I was told Tellas is better suited for all around action (I guess it's useful up to lvl 280 ish), and Universe is better suited for bosses/mobs with shields. I am using the Tellas at the moment and I did not have the chance to test out the Universe rod my self but I'll take the word of others who'be used both. Although I am not entirely soo sure on why one person told me to swap to Universe at lvl 280 (I guess that's when H.W. can start solo boss grind comfortably... which I also figure it would mean more bosses with shields etc.)
All I know is that Tellas has the upper hand when it comes to magic elemental output rather than flat Matk value.
Correction: I just read one of the comment before this and that person stated Universe is better suited for Zero Ray + Ban. Skill uses. This made sense as to why someone said at such lvl (lvl 280+), Universe rod is better.

Because universe is level dependent MATK+11% MATK+(LV:10)% So at level 340 total boost MATK is 45% Then at level 390 total boost MATK is 50% And at level 890 total boost MATK would be 100%

AizenSou [Quitting] I am pretty sure the MATK per Lv is simply 1 Lv = 1 MATK. Short summary of what is better: Universe in party spamming Zero. Tellas when solo or in party spamming Imperial or when facing + skill delay debuff bosses.

Nope, Universe matk up by lv formula is same like Megistus which is (lv:10)%, if it's 1MATK per lv there's no doubt Tellas would outdo Univ's zero ray damage. Why? First Tellas has base matk higher than Univ, 14% vs 11%, then again 340 raw matk (if lv 340) is nothing compare to tellas' all magic+12% because zero is neutral magic and tellas all magic including neutral magic but for all the reason universe is looks like as megistus' indirect upgrade also someone stated it too irunaonline.boards.net/thread/25191/universe-caterina

AizenSou [Quitting] Base MATK: 2004 Universe Base MATK: 519 = (271 * 1.8345) + 22 Total Base MATK according to you = 2523 Total Base MATK according to me the Base MATK = 2846 Multiplicator (Universe 271+9 s Gerust Magic 4): According to you 323/10 = 32.3% + 11% + 20% = 63.3% According to me = 11% + 20% = 31% Total MATK according to you = 4120 Total MATK according to me = 3728 Actual MATK = 3728 Summary: Don't believe everything you read on the forums, except if it is from me

AizenSou [Quitting] To count the base MATK use no buffs and no MATK % gear and use a really weak claw/sword/bow, no throw/rod or anything like that., universe base MATK is the weapon ATK but it gets enhanced by +9, +9 enhances the ATK/MATK bonus by 83.45% so you just have to multiply it with the weapon ATK. Magic ability on lvl 4 is 22 MATK, there is a chart online. The MATK up by Lvl is the solution to make the observed number as shown above make sense with different base MATK.
