Rare drop rate is based purely on luck. I believe the stars on fortune are drop rate not RARE drop rate. There is a difference.
Considering it took the same time to defeat a boss with a PT and pet. A pet would be better because there is a small chance the pet can pick up a rare. So overall your chances of getting a rare are increased.

Just to clarify, as I am not sure where you got the "considering it took the same time to defeat a boss with a PT and pet", but you have to be in a pretty crappy PT to have the same time frame of killing ganei with or without a PT - that or you're farming a 1-shot boss. Otherwise, and in later, harder bosses, being in a PT will hopefully yield a higher boss kills x time than solo that you're better off in a PT than solo. Also, though anecdotal, I think pet chance of drop is lower than a PT member (i.e. another character in the field with you) too. Never tried to actually compare on bosses, but if you farm mobs with a pet, you'll notice that they don't get as many stuff as you do - including common drops.

I agree that they dont get as many drops as party members but seeing as party members more than likely wont give u their drops for free its better for u overall but if the party kills faster u get more drops anyways thats a fact but in raid cases where everyone gets the drop its better to use pet for extra drops and because not many in raid will heal u cuz lets face it most raiders r selfish

Depends if it's individuals each in it for themselves, or if it's mates and good guildies that if some1 needs something they will step in to hlp increase the chances. If there's anything we can do for each other, we do what we can. I don't do the prior tho coz just like u said, like times farming giant rocker, if I can get a friend in then sweet, but I would never pt with some random coz it would just take more time to insure we both got what we wanted, and chances are likely most times, ppl get drop and it's adios leaving u think "I woulda done the right thing & stuck around so screw u to "

Not raids, since raids adds its own dynamic.

Did not mean to be misunderstood. What I meant was, if hypothetically it took the same time to defeat a boss in a PT as with a Pet. The choice of a pet would be better because they and the pet could potentially pick up a rare drop. I was specifically referring to them receiving a drop and not their PT members. This is because they asked about themselves receiving a drop while in a PT and while with a pet. Obviously the deciding factor here is not necessarily the rare drop rate itself, But how many boss kills you can get within a specific time. A PT should allow you to complete more boss runs in a shorter amount of time thus increasing the chance of a rare vs being solo (Even with a pet)

Party of course. It's faster when you have more fingers tappin ya know.
But anyway, based of my experience, my pet gets xtals like this one time it got me a Mezza ^_^
So if the boss is easy and my pet can survive it, I opt for pet.
