Asura aura description:
Boost attack and defense with aura.
Boost every attack and defense charging the fighting spirit.
Boost attack and defense with aura.
Boost every attack and defense charging the fighting spirit.
We know that asura boost attack by 1.5x at max gauge, kinda almost all monks knew that.
But what I'm interested to find out more is about the defense part. There's not much info about it online, not even jp sources, except that ah-san's thread mentioned that it reduces physical dmg proportional to the % bar. And so, the bored me went to perform some tests with that skill.
Theory 1: Asura aura reduces physical only damage. Magical damage still hits you for full.
I tried this on goblins, the mob that constantly throws spells at you. Asura do reduce his magic damage. In conclusion, asura aura does reduce magic and melee alike.
Theory 2: Asura aura reduces rate cut dmg.
On yardes
∙ rate cut dmg will be reduced, yes.
∙ reduced amount is proportional to aura% remaining, maximum is approx half of rate cut dmg reduced. (About 50% dmg reduced at 98-100%, and nearly no noticeable difference of reduction at 1-3%)
On vulschem
∙ same results as yardes (his eq attack, not the map one)
On 3i
∙ same results as yardes (his shellbrk attack)
Theory 3: Asura aura reduces map dmg.
A quick test on vulschem rate cut map attacks (they reduce yr hp to 1 at max) showed that whether asura is on, it has no change at all. In conclusion, asura aura does not protect you from map damage.
Theory 4: Asura aura has no effect on ailment dmg.
A quick test on the lava near Kagan showed that whether asura was on or not, you still get the same amount of burn dmg. In conclusion, it doesnt protect you from ailment dmg.
TLDR:
Asura aura protects you from:
∙ Physical and Magical damage
∙ Rate cut attacks
Asura doesn't help you with:
∙ Reducing map damage
∙ Reducing ailment damage
Asura aura protects you from:
∙ Physical and Magical damage
∙ Rate cut attacks
Asura doesn't help you with:
∙ Reducing map damage
∙ Reducing ailment damage
If asura would change in the future to always maintain a 50% dmg reduction regardless of it being at 100% or at 1% gauge, it will indefinitely surpass stone skin. Except that they still has an advantage of reducing damage by half when ss breaks.
Oh yeah, as well as having a change to its long ass cooldown too. You could use ss 8 times before using asura for the 2nd time.
