I also had an old xperia I used to use, I wiped everything clean and installed just iruna and it didn't heat up too bad, so if you have a spare phone that's a pretty good idea. It'll probably run fast and only be using ram for iruna and system processes. I've had to switch between 3 phones since beta for the overheating problem. I've had a phone permanently burn an image of my guild roster (was a pretty cool reminder of times gone by but ruined my phone) into the screen and iruna would sap the literal life from the battery ruining the charge. Ive heard of a person leaving Iruna on and leaving their phone under their pillow and their phone started to burn from the inside. I'm gonna buy a mini battery operated fan for my devices now XD
It's about the size of your processor in your phone and internet stability I started playing iruna for the first time about 3 months ago but the same thing goes with all mmo games the bigger your processor the faster the load out less heat smaller processors get loads of heat over time gpu rendering takes a major toll same as if you don't clear the cache partition from device boot screen
I'm shadegex lvl 171 doc using ninja I play by the rules on iruna, o(╥﹏╥)o am also tantrum face a lvl184 Bishop, link^_^) lvl 72 knight soon to be paladin, Endedge lvl 46 mage soon to be monk or minstrel!
I use the LG Lucid 2 and experience heat problems and quick battery drainage but I think the drainage isn't too bad. I find that it drains faster wen it is hot so I made a hair jell in plastic bag ice pack which helps cool it a lot. Though I can't plug my phone in and play or else it heats up way too much, way too fast. When my phone gets hot I experience a problem where my screen sort of freezes up, I have visual touch feedback enabled so I can see when its heat frozen because it acts as if I'm still touching the screen and will sit there running into walls all day. I know its unstuck when the feedback white dot dissapears.
