Maven's Guide to Proper Backstabbing!
This guide is merely to help you or give you an idea as to how to properly backstab efficiently to improve your total dps (damage per second). Some of the presented data may be inaccurate, therefore please do forgive me in advance for being a noob about it. The guide is based on the Assassin's Backstab skill which can be acquired at level 140 upon becoming an assassin and upgraded at level 160 to it's second level. Suggestions and comments will be accepted in order to improve this guide for the sake and benefit of other fellow assassins. :]
If you're reading this I'm assuming you're another assassin who is confused on how the skill Backstab works and how to properly use it. The guide will revolve around the skill and not the assassin class itself so all class builds regarding the Assassin class will be disregarded. In this guide you will find out estimates on the output damage, angles to attack on to properly backstab and finally the do's and don'ts of being a backstab assassin.
First, let's attack what exactly the f*ck we're talking about. Iruna wiki's description of the skill 'Backstab' is described as "A powerful surprise attack enhanced by attacking from behind."
From the description alone, you can already tell that you will be able to do more damage if you attack from behind-- hence "BACKstab". Since the monsters in Iruna are different from what we are and usually see, sometimes it is hard to decipher what is it's front and back. The best way to figure this out is to find it's face and assume that the face is on the front. (Duh, what kind of monster has it's face on it's a**?) With that said, whatever the backside of the side of the face of the monster would be the back.
Each monster has 4 sides that could be classified into 3 sections namely "The Front/Face", "The Left Side", "The Right Side" and "The Back" where both sides would be sectioned together.

LEGEND:
Yellow - Monster
Purple - Front Angle
Green - Side Angle
Teal/Light Blue - Back Angle
Shown above is a poorly designed idea of what the angles for backstabbing would look like. (I still love you babe! :3)
Let's start off with the FRONT (PURPLE AREA). The reason why the skill is called backstab is because it's meant to be used from behind. Backstab used in the front angle as shown above under the color of purple deals a minimal amount of 10% of what your 100% of your real backstab from behind would be. It is not recommended to be backstabbing from this angle as there will always be ways to improve your damage like by opting to attack from the side if for some reason you just can't make it to an angle where you cannot attack from behind. If for some dumb reason you cannot backstab from neither the back or side, I recommend you just normal attack as 10% of your backstab damage would probably be lower than your normal attack.
Next is the SIDE (GREEN AREA). There are times when the monsters we are attacking are backed up against the wall and the tank cannot move or will not move (Yeah, I'm talkin about you nab paladins/ninja who don't care about us dealing OP damage ) and the only option to burn it down immediately is to spam backstab from a different angle. Well, the next best thing from backstabbing from behind would be to backstab from the side. For some reason the angle for the side seems wider based on my observation so I think it isn't 90 degrees for each side. Anyways, backstabbing on the side deals roughly 50% damage of what your real backstab damage would be from the back. The reason why I say roughly 50% is because this was based off averaging my damage after several tests. I did not take into consideration that I was wearing crystals/gears that could affect the output so the percentage of damage could vary. This is the next best angle to backstab from if for some reason you cannot backstab from behind.
Last but certainly not the least is the BACK (TEAL/LIGHT BLUE AREA). From this angle, you can your full damage (100%) backstab without any deductions since backstab was made to be used from the back. You will know you have achieved a proper backstab from this angle if a white light bluish orb effect followed by an X appears on the monster upon backstabbing. This is the highly suggested angle you backstab from whenever the opportunity is available. Also from this angle, the chance to proc, what we assassins call "DOUBLE BACKSTAB" is possible. Basically, based on your CRT/Double Attack chance, you can double your full backstab damage in a single backstab by chance. This feat increases, again, if you increase your CRT/Double attack chance. With maximum CRT (256 CRT) you can achieve 33% proc rate of double attack which can help proc the Double Backstab.
FAQ:
Can I backstab using any other weapon other than a throwing weapon?
-Yes you can but you would be missing out on the other assasin buffs which could benefit you.
What kind of items/crystas would help me increase my backstab damage?
-Anything that increases ATK% Damage or Crit% Damage.
What is the best build for backstabbing?
-Honestly, there is no best build for backstabbing. From the three known backstab builds, each has it's own pro's and con's. It's up to you to decide which one best suits you and your play style.
Can I solo bosses and backstab them even without a tank?
-Yes, you most certainly can. It just takes time and practice. You just need to maneuver your character properly and study your enemy. Attack while it's attacking you while you wait for it's pause after it's attack interval. Once he stops doing anything, walk directly across/through him and backstab. That should position you behind him so that once you backstab him, it will be from behind. Then normal attack until his next pause in his attack interval. Rinse and repeat.
________ says I should be doing this and not this. Is he right? What is the right?
-That's up for you to decide. People have their own opinions about how things work. This is merely a guide to try and help you if you think this could help you and you are open minded to a guide like this.
