So I hav been noticing that as I play against bosses(I us knuckles) I regularly get beat to the punch for breaker award by 1h sword users despite the fact that the only skills i use in battle are breaker skills. So my question is what is the breaker award based on, and how can I avoid 1h sword users overlapping and outplaying me?

I don't if this will help, but I believe you'll be able to get the number one spot if you focus breaking when the their red AOE attacks appear; if you haven't already done so. Basically, whenever the need arises break the monster's attacks.

As a 1h sword user and also a brawler breaker I know the struggle the award is based off using skills that flinch hers the trick though the sword tree has a few skills that break and if the person is doing both hard hit and spiral air in a well planned combo you can pretty much always fall short to the sword. Spiral air flinches several times during its attack my usual combo with to break skills will probably flinch on average of 3-6times before it finishes which all gets spammed off of 100mp very rapidly. My brawler will probably only flinch 3 times tops during its combo which costs also 100mp. It boils down to the rate that they trigger a flinch.

I'm like almost always the #1 Breaker by a lot in parties no matter who is in it on my Brawler. Do you have Smash as part of your combo? Also I believe Bash and Shell Break break stuff too. It could be that they are much better geared than you maybe. I've like never had any struggles with it though.
Things to get to speed up Breaking:
Max ASPD. If you are still seeing the timer before auto attacks you don't have it maxed. This is somewhere around 1000-1100 ASPD. Best way to get this is to Remodel a Forest Wolf Garb into Light Armor. This drastically increases your ASPD and FLEE/Eva. With auto attacks faster, you will gain more MP, which will mean more skill combos. Strangely 1H Sword users can reach this easier than Brawlers xD. Dat Brutal Dragon Sword.
Mp up by attack. This isn't really necessary. I have Knuckle Duster only on Fire Bosses.
My combo is: Smash>Sonic Spike>Earthbind>Shell Break. I've used Bash some too but that skill just takes soo long.
But usually the margin is really wide between me and the 2nd party member. It could also be from the actual tapping you need to do to break the parts of bosses? I kinda figured it was that not the flinches and stuff. Make sure you are tapping the places you need to tap lol, as you should be doing it anyways. Also you get 1 skill point after winning 10 times, and 5 stat points after doing it 100 times.

Basically, whenever the need arises break the monster's attacks. Oo I didn't think of that... I wonder... I do this anyways because it makes sense to do it lol. So maybe that's why I usually win at Breaking? Funnily enough I got the tank emblem before the breaking one xD. Brawlers be getting them that hate lol. 1st at Breaking 90% of the time, 1st at tanking like 99% of the time. Shh lets not talk about DPS(it's actually not too bad really)...

You can also Stun out of Tumble as well. I'd say the rate at which they activate their effects from the most common to least common its> Smash=Shell Break>Sonic Blade>Bash. Honestly for things like Decel I just use Smash>Sonic Blade as a combo. Shell Break makes it cost too much as the third skill, and Earthbind and Bash have too long of animations. Easier bosses like Mochelo and the like I use a full combo though lol.

I feel like Knuckles in general don't do much damage with skills but do like twice as much as everyone else with auto attacks.

I don't see the reason for not maxing a skill that will be essential to ur build.(imo)

If we had more skill points I'd be like go for it though haha. I mean mine is maxed but it really doesn't do much damage lol. I believe Shell Break has the potential to do way more than Smash so that's probably a better option overall.

I think it actually lasts a good bit as well. So that puts 4/5 active skills being Break skills for us. You can actually make an entire 100 MP 4 hit combo of just break skills lol. Smash/Sonic>Sonic/Smash>Bash>Shell Break. I think the length of the Break time in order from longest to shortest is: Stun>Break>Tumble>Flinch. Stun is very inconsistent though lol. I actually normally leave Bash out because I'm almost always tanking whatever I'm fighting and I don't want to be held down in one place for that long and get hit with Hellfire lol. Side note: I've been thinking about getting Holy Punch to replace Earthbind in my normal combo. Mostly for the speed and not the damage. Strangely Knuckles is the class with the slowest skills besides Power Shot from Archers and Magic lol. My normal combo is normally Smash>Sonic Spike>Earthbind>Shell Break. I should try switching Earthbind and Sonic Spike though. I think you were the one that said something about staggering breaks haha. I just don't like Bash's inconsistency with Stun mainly, if it doesn't stun I get hit :/
